Causal sets / ha re
“Causal Sets / Ha Re” is an art projection mapping about the mysterious patterns of snow and a fusion of causal sets with the concept of "Hare" (a state of festivity or special occasions) at the Innuko Festival 2024. Japanese festival's origin is linked to the myth of "Ame no Iwato" (the heaven’s rock cave), where it is said the celebration began when the villagers held a vibrant festival to coax Amaterasu (the goddess of the sun) out of the rock cave (another world), leading to the opening of the cave. The Innuko Festival is based on the folk tale that people use dog statues to prevent evil thieves and spirits. These mysterious patterns of snow portray rituals of protection.
This piece opens a portal between the real world and otherworldly realms, inviting viewers into an extraordinary dimension of "Hare" on the 50x23m huge wall. It unfolds a magical landscape where everything is interconnected like causal sets, with the patterns of snow and “Hare" and "Ke" (the mundane or everyday life) flickering on and off like a kaleidoscope. It explores a majestic visual imagery and immersive world bathed in light and sound, celebrating spirits and mystical rituals of protection.
